Principles of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is based on the principles of three 'Doshas' - 'Pitta', 'Vata' and 'Kapha'- which are derived from the five elements:  earth, water, fire, air and space.  Each person has their own unique combination of these energies when they are born & providing our energies stay in this state of balance our bodies will stay healthy.  When the 'Doshas' are in balance, a person is in good health.  When out of balance, due to diet & lifestyle choices, illness can set in.  Ayurveda aims to treat the root cause of the illness by balancing our three 'Doshas' back to natural balance & well-being.

Ayurveda and the Urban Dweller

The ancient science of Ayurveda is still relevant today as it has ever been.  Its healing potential has never been more needed than by the modern urban dweller facing the added stresses that emerge from living a fast-paced lifestyle. i.e. sensory overload, limited time, chemical pollutants in our food & the atmosphere, unhealthy diet & lifestyle & the pressure of continually being on the go!  I offer therapies to nourish & rejuvenate the mind, body & spirit, helping to approach life with a renewed sense of calm & serenity.

Ayurveda medicine originated in India more than 400 years ago and it is one of the oldest holistic

health systems.  The term ‘Ayurveda’ is developed from two Sanskrit words, 'Ayu' meaning life or lifespan, & 'veda' meaning knowledge or science. Hence, the combined term Ayurveda translated means “knowledge of life” & it is regarded more than a system of medicine than as a way of life. Its aims are to utilise the blessings of nature & bring harmony & well being to the body & mind through health, diet, lifestyle, detoxification & herbal remedies, bringing a person's body & mind back into a balance.
