Meditation provides a sense of calm, peace & balance that quiets the mind & promotes inner peace & relaxation. It is often used as a tool for stress reduction, emotional regulation & spiritual growth.  Mindfulness, mantra, loving-kindness, transcendental & visualisation are a few popular types of meditation. With regular practice meditation can help people to cultivate greater self-awareness, improve concentration & enhance one’s sense of well-being.

Asana, also known as a posture or pose, is central to yoga.  Asana involves holding a physical posture that helps to increase strength, flexibility & balance, while calming the mind & reducing stress.  Each posture exercises every part of the body, stretching & toning the muscles & mobilising the joints & spine. Asana stimulates the internal organs & glands, boosts energy & keeps the body in radiant health.

Breath (prana)

Mediatation (dhyana)

Shavasana, or corpse pose, is a resting position.  It is  usually practised at the end of a yoga session.  This allows the body & mind to fully absorb the benefits of the physical practice.

The goal of Shavasana is to calm the mind, release tension in the body & enter a state of deep relaxation.  Its aim is to let go of thoughts, worries & distractions to fully surrender into stillness & serenity.

Our health and general quality of life can be significantly improved by proper breathing. We can boost our oxygen intake, improve circulation, and lower stress and anxiety by using breathing techniques like diaphragmatic, deep, or slow breathing. These techniques have been demonstrated to strengthen immune system health, improve concentration, and support overall health and vitality.

yogic sleep (yoga nidra)

Regulating the flow of prana, or life force energy, is the practice of yoga breathing known as pranayama. By utilising different breathing exercises & techniques, pranayama aims to control the breath & the mind, leading to various benefits for physical, mental & spiritual well-being. Through regular practice, pranayama can improve lung capacity, reduce stress & anxiety, increase focus & concentration & promote overall relaxation & balance in the body & mind.

Yoga nidra or yogic sleep is a relaxation technique that leads to a deep state of calm. The practitioner is guided through a series of body awareness exercises, breathing techniques & visualisations to enter stillness. The practice is designed to quiet the mind, release tension & stress, improve mental clarity & focus & promote healing & rejuvenation.

What is

Originating in India thousands of years ago, yoga is an ancient science and one of the oldest approaches to wellness in the world.  The word yoga translates as “union” and its aim is to reconnect the body, mind and spirit to a natural state of harmony. Through the practice of yoga, a healthy mind is best achieved through a healthy body.  A stronger and healthier body allows the mind to become calmer and a natural state of harmony is achieved.

Today, the therapeutic potential of yoga may be a perfect remedy for the daily struggles and stresses of modern life. Focusing on 'posture', 'breath' and 'relaxation' the mind, body and spirit can be rebalanced and life can be approached with a renewed sense of calm and inner peace.
